REQUIRED BOOKS AND MATERIALS
All
books and materials are available at the Creighton University Bookstore. Please
use only the editions listed below:
Bruce McComiskey, ed., English Studies: An Introduction to the Discipline(s)
(Urbana, IL: NCTE, 2006)
Joseph Gibaldi, MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 6th Edition
Additional readings and handouts will be provided online, via BlueLine, or handed out during the course of
the semester. Please be sure to check the syllabus webpage frequently for
updates, links and changes.
NB: Because you will need to keep drafts of your work to turn in with your portfolio, along with comments and other supplemental material for your written work, please also make sure to have a sturdy folder or binder to keep your work together and organized.
In addition, I assume that you have and use all of the following:
1. A good college-level dictionary
2. A good writing handbook (for reference information on grammar and style) such as Andrea Lunsford’s The Everyday Writer or Diana Hacker’s A Writer’s Reference
3. A dictionary of literary terms. There are excellent online resources with this information, such as the Bedford Glossary of Literary Terms, <http://www.bedfordstmartins.com/literature/bedlit/glossary_a.htm >; The Gale Glossary of Terms < http://www.gale.com/free_resources/glossary/ >; and Jack Lynch's Glossary of Literary and Rhetorical Terms < http://andromeda.rutgers.edu/~jlynch/Terms/ >.
4. A working and regularly checked CU email account – I will occasionally send emails to the class using the AMI and or BlueLine email function. These go to your CU email and I will expect that you check that email account regularly.
